• To Marissa Arzadon, Lorna Mariano and other interested

• From Sara de Guzman, STAR columnist: As I was browsing
through the Internet, I noticed that Gary Valenciano’s song entitled
The Warrior is a Child is exactly the same song written by Twila Paris.
All the while I had an impression that Gary V. wrote the lyrics of the
song. Can you clarify this, if possible? (To Sara: You’re right. From the start, Gary V. never said he wrote the song’s lyrics and always acknowledges the writer.)


• The first time she disappeared from the GMA 7 newscast 24 Oras, Chika Minute host
Pia Guanio was replaced by Jolina Magdangal and televiewers (this one
included) found Jolina a good replacement. Recently, Pia disappeared
from 24 Oras and Miriam Quiambao took over, giving televiewers
another chance to compare (and contrast) Pia with her replacement. Like
several people, I found Miriam very refreshing, more lovable and more
appealing than Pia. Now, shouldn’t Jessica Soho, head of the GMA
News/Public Affairs Dept., experiment by having Pia and Miriam
alternate on Chika Minute every other day, so we televiewers can see who’s the better host? My choice: Miriam Quiambao hands down!

My newfound friend Christian Razukas, who’s with the people behind the
Hawaii International Film Festival and who was here several weeks ago
for the CineMalaya Filmfest, relayed to Funfare the
good news that 17 Filipino feature films and shorts are being screened
at the ongoing 26th Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival
(Oct. 19 to 28).


"It’s a record," said Christian. "First time so many Filipino films are included in this filmfest."


The Hawaii Filmfest is reputed to be the premier venue for introducing the films of Asia to the US.


"Filipinos are the largest part of our state’s population,"
Christian quoted LVHIFF executive director Chuck Boller as saying.
"It’s only natural that the cinema of the Philippines is
well-represented at the festival, especially this year which marks the
centennial anniversary of Filipino migration to Hawaii."
